Smoking cold Turkey is the most popular stop smoking method by far and it is also the method with the highest failure rate.

Here we will examine your chances of success and other methods that are more effective.

To give up smoking cold turkey is so hard to achieve because of the addictive nature of Nicotine. When you stop, nicotine cravings kick in and it’s hard for most people to cope with them.

If you really want to give up smoking then you can if you have the willpower but most people simply don’t and that’s why the failure rate is so high.

If you think you have the willpower the cravings are worst for the first 3 days and within a few weeks they will cease. However ask yourself this question:

If nicotine is not bad for you why not use NRT?

You don’t have to put yourself through cold turkey.

Contrary to popular believe Nicotine while addictive by nature is not un healthy and is actually part of the natural food chain and does not cause cancer or any other disease when not consumed in cigarettes.

Trace elements are consumed by us everyday in popular foods such as potatoes, various vegetables and tea.

So if you use nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and get nicotine outside of cigarettes then you will cope with nicotine cravings and not be tempted to smoke.

NRT Has double the success rate of cold turkey. Popular products include: Gum, patches inhalers and puffers and all deliver a measured dose of nicotine to cop with cravings.

So why put yourself through cold turkey when you can get help?

We have already said nicotine is not bad for you but the fact is its actually good for you!

Medical research has shown that affects the neuro transmitters in the brain and improves mood, memory and concentration.

Many drug companies are actually looking at producing pure organic nicotine products to treat a variety of diseases including:

Depression, Altzeimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, Schizophrenia and various attention disorders

There is a product already on the market that delivers pure organic nicotine and its nicotine water.

Originally marketed to smokers when they couldn’t or don’t wish to smoke it is now being drunk by an increasing number of people due to its potential health benefits.

Nicotine is not the cause of disease and death many people think that is some of the other 4,000 chemicals contained in cigarette smoking.

People are now seeing nicotine in a different way than in previous years due to ongoing medical research.

Once glamorized on television shows, in magazine ads and other places, cigarette smoking can be one bad habit to quit. In fact it’s one habit that people often start at a very early age, from childhood on. And it’s one habit that has a high death rate resulting mainly from cancer associated with smoking.

People try to stop smoking cold turkey, or turn to religion, patches, nicotine gum, hypnosis and more. With so many choices available for help to quit smoking, here are some tips to add to them in order to conquer bad cigarette smoking habits once and for all and breathe fresher, healthier air.

Change Mindset

Start thinking clearer, and your mind will lead your body to a clearer, healthier state. You can begin by heading to your local library and checking out books, videos, cassettes, DVDs and other resources to help you stop smoking. Other good topics are on self-improvement, healthy diets, and motivational and inspirational themes. See if there are any support groups in your area on any of these subjects and search online for forums to find friends to work through any issues with and have fun with to get your mind off smoking and onto better subjects.

Also line up some support people on your home front, off line. You don’t need friends who still smoke that will say things like, “Well, a half a pack a day isn’t bad, don’t worry about it.” You need encouraging, healthy friends to see you through the good times and bad times like you’ll see them through in exchange. So get a list going of people you can reach out to instead of reaching for a smoke: healthy neighbors, family, friends, etc.

Develop Healthier Habits

A great way to break an old habit is to start a new one. So here are some you could replace smoking with; like instead of lighting up:

1. Put your cigarette money aside in a jar and save it for a special celebration trip somewhere fun.

2. Instead of picking up a cigarette, pick up a book, magazine, newspaper or newsletter and catch up on your reading.

3. Instead of smoking, do some journaling, logging your pain, agony, hope, improved health, etc. Have fun and use magic markers and stickers in it and don’t worry about your spelling!

4. Instead of smoking, go to a gym and work out or work out at home or outside.

5. Instead of smoking, do something nice for someone else- and don’t tell them!

OK, time to get moving. Go get ‘em!

A lot of people who smoke say they would like to quit, but are looking for ways to quit smoking that will ease the irritability, lessen the withdrawl symptoms, and make it easier for them to quit. There are so many ways to quit smoking products on the market that it can quickly become confusing. If you have decided to quit smoking, you have already made the most important step. Now you need to stick to your decision no matter what happens.

Of all the many ways to quit smoking, there is no one way that is best for everyone. That’s why there are so many stop smoking programs out there. You will need to do some research to find one that feels right for you.

Some Common Ways To Quit Smoking:

  1. Cold Turkey

  2. Nicotine Patch or gum

  3. Herbal Products

  4. Hypnosis

  5. Behavior Modification

  6. Acupuncture

These first two ways to quit smoking don’t have a very good success rate, so they aren’t highly recommended. People claim to have a very high success rate with hypnosis or herbal products, often combining these two ways to quit smoking. Combining multiple methods may greatly increase your chances of quitting.

Behavior modification is one of the ways to quit smoking that has worked for many people. So what is behavior modification anyway? It includes:

  1. Identifying the triggers that cause you to want to smoke

  2. Finding other ways to deal with these triggers

  3. Avoiding places, activities, or people that you associate with smoking

  4. Creating new habits or routines that aren’t connected to your former life as a smoker

These changes will help ease the withdrawl symptoms, while giving you the assurance that you have a plan in place, and help you break the mental connection between smoking and your daily activities.

Something many people have done to help them kick the smoking habit is to figure what it costs them to smoke and plan what to do with the money they save by not smoking. Just think, if you spend $5 a day for cigarettes, after a year you would have saved $1825. You should be able to think of something nice to do with that money, right?

It can be difficult to stop smoking, so prepare yourself by choosing one of the many ways to quit smoking that is right for you. Commit yourself to quitting and get your game plan together. Stick to your decision to quit, no matter what happens. Quitting smoking may well be one of the biggest accomplishments of your life.

Some people believe that weight loss begins in the mind. But the question I’ll try to answer is: could lose weight hypnosis be an alternative for losing weight? Permanent weight loss occurs with a change in lifestyle, not through unnatural diets that are impossible to maintain.

Hypnotism has become an important part of weight loss strategies. Currently, more and more people are turning to hypnosis or hypnotherapy for help with weight loss.

Many traditional weight loss programmes leave us feeling frustrated and deprived. It is known that this is the pattern of weight loss but that slowing down of the weight coming off makes the whole process seem more effortful. The weight isn’t dropping off as fast as it was.

Lots of people try to lose weight using methods based on hypnosis. But the weight doesn’t stay off. Many individuals these days, male or female, young or old, are struggling with weight management.

Repetitive weight loss and gain is hard on the body, especially the heart and of course, it is hard on the emotional state of the dieter as well. Temporary weight loss is easy. This is probably because patients have not made any fundamental changes to their behavior, which would result in weight loss.

Self hypnosis is usually thought of as a person listening to an audio tape, mp3, or other mass-produced media, intended to induce a willingness to absorb suggestions centered around a specific topic such as weight loss, stop smoking, etc. As soon as the patient can measure progress for this goal (like pounds lost, if the goal is weight loss, days of no smoking, if the goal is to stop smoking, and so on.

People go to the hypnotist for a variety of reasons: some people’s problems are more ‘on the surface’, for instance weight watchers, smokers, people with a drinking problem; some on the other hand have more deep rooted issues, which could deal with their self image, traumatic experiences in their life, divorce, deaths, or career decisions, among others.

Also be aware of what you feel for the moment like the temperature of your skin, the weight of your body against the chair or bed etc. From smoking to sexual problems, from will power to weight loss, all types of hypnosis downloads are available on the internet.

Apart from hypnosis, there are many stop smoking ‘products’ on the market that patients can choose. Because hypnosis permanently changes patient’s attitude towards smoking they have little chance of relapse at any point in the future. You may have heard that people get hypnotized to lose weight or quit habits like smoking or chewing their fingernails.

For example, a stop smoking hypnosis may delve into the rationale for quitting – my family is important to me and needs me to be healthy. It is better to live a long life than a short one, etc.

For self hypnosis to help people quit smoking and losing weight, all people need to do is visit some particular sites and click on a particular hypnotic routine. For example, if you want to quit smoking you will have to download the MP3 related to hypnosis for smoking.

As a result of stopping smoking there will be an improvement in health. Smoking cessation, confidence building and habit breaking are all positive outcomes that self hypnosis bring. People do actually succeed in stopping smoking but the same method of stopping does not work for everyone and sometimes the same method may finally work only after a second or third attempt at it is tried.

Hypnosis is probably best known for breaking habits with stop smoking and weight loss success and yet it has been found to be effective in reducing and managing stress, achieving deep relaxation, increasing energy, overcoming fears, overcoming insomnia, and reducing the experience of pain. From low confidence to sexual issues, from smoking to weight loss, people seem to be benefiting from the effects of hypnosis for a variety of problems.

Hypnosis that is designed to address a habit like smoking or eating is often delivered in group sessions held over a number of hours, and it can also be administered by CDs and tapes at home.

I often hear smokers say they will stop smoking when the time is right…..If you are still reading this article, then perhaps your right itme to stop is now!

When I get a call about smoking cessation therapy, I’m usually asked, “how much will it cost to stop smoking”? I respond, “A lot less than it will cost to keep smoking, and I don’t just mean the money”.

Do you really want to stop???

If you truly want to stop smoking, then maybe your first port of call should be your doctor’s practice. They will have trained nurses to help you with counselling, patches, gum and advice. This approach might work for you, but for the people who turn to their Hypnotherapist for help, this approach obviously hasn’t helped (and I see lots of them). If this is you, read on………

First of all, please remember that any well trained and qualified Hypnotherapist, really wants you to stop-smoking, they know what smoking does to people, and to their loved ones when they become ill and perhaps die. One in every two individuals who smoke will die of a smoking related disease, perhaps as young as 65 years, the average age of death for a smoker. In fact, a person dies in the UK of smoking related diseases ever five minutes….just think about that….More deaths than accidents, AIDS, drug abuse & alcohol all rolled up together….and if that isn’t enough, there are those countless numbers who need to have amputations, and those who struggle on with breathing difficulties and wheezing and coughing for a long time before the habit finally finishes them off.

Did you know that it was in the 60′s that tobacco and cancer where first linked together….no not the 1960′s….the 1760′s….yep, you heard correctly, the 1760′s. In 1761 a London Doctor called John Hill found that tobacco in the form of snuff caused pollypusses (small tumours) in the respiratory tract of many who used it.

Now just take a look at what you breath in when you take a nice long drag on your cigarette….

Information on Constituents of Tobacco Smoke

Nicotine is the most widely known chemical in tobacco smoke, but many people are amazed to discover that there are well over 4000 other chemicals produces when tobacco burns. Most of these have incomprehensible names and really only known to scientists and chemical analysts. Lister below, though, are some of the more well known ones.

CADMIUM

CARBON MONOXIDE

CARBON DIOXIDE

AMMONIA

PROPANE

METHANE

METHANOL

NICKEL COMPOUNDS

BENZENE

ISOPRENE

HYDROGEN SULPHIDE

ACREOLIN

ACETONE

HYDROCYANIC ACID

HYDROGEN CYANIDE

CREOSOL

METHYL NITRATE

NITROGEN OXIDE

DDT

PYRIDINE

TAR

FORMALDEHYDE

BUTADIONE

NICOTINE

In addition to these chemicals – given of purely as a result of the tobacco leaf burning – there are various additional unwholesome substances that may be present as a result of the plantation environment and the conditions in which the harvested leaf is stored and shipped.

Ok, That’s the bad news…but if you do stop….here are the benefits….

After 20 minutes, your blood pressure drops to normal and temerature of hands and feet return to normal.

After 8 hours Carbon monoxide levels in the blood drop to normal and oxygen levels in the blood return to normal.

24 Hours Chance of heart attacks begin to decrease.

48 Hours Nerve endings start to re-grow and smell and taste improve.

2 weeks – Circulation improves, Exercise including walking becomes easier. Lung function can increase by up to one third.

And there’s a lot more good news for you if you really want to stop. If you have the desire, why not contact your local hypnotherapist but make sure they are qualified, insured and experienced in smoking cessation therapy. I suggest you look for membership of at least one of the main UK Institutes and Associations which include:

British Institute of Hypnotherapy

Genaral Hypnotherapy Register (Registering arm of the Hypnotherapy Standards Council)

National Council for Hypnotherapy

Association for Professional Hypnosis and Psychotherapy

Hypnotherapy Association

Ensure that your therapist has a good knowledge of the health risks to smoking as well as the relevant skills and experience to offer you a first class stop-smoking session. If you know anyone who gave up with Hypnotherapy, ask them for the details of their therapist.

Good luck with kicking your habit…If you would like to speak to me about stopping, please call me on 020 8658 4290, or email alancrisp@yourtruth.co.uk. I will always be pleased to hear from you and I’d love to help you stop-smoking.

There is substantial evidence underlining weight gain as the main concern smokers cite as a reason for not stopping smoking. This is amongst the many other excuses smokers give for putting off stopping smoking. Other examples include the inability to cope with stress or a fear that they will not be able to enjoy an upcoming party or their life in general without their trusty cigarettes.

Smoking is an addiction to nicotine but most smokers, and non-smokers for that matter, wrongly think of it as a habit. This is not the case. The urge to smoke is so overwhelming; it simply cannot just be a habit.

The suffering that smokers must go through in order to be able to smoke, is evidence as to why smoking is not a habit, but is an addiction. Smokers cannot inhale any other form of smoke, other than tobacco smoke, without coughing and spluttering or even being sick.

Once smokers come to realise the addiction to nicotine is the reason they smoke, it becomes easier to learn how to stop smoking without weight gain.

Smokers think they enjoy smoking as much, if not more, than eating. However, there is a very subtle difference between smoking and eating and understanding this is the key to learning how to stop smoking without weight gain. Read this two statements:

“When you are hungry, your body tells you so by giving you hunger pangs. You eat and you are rewarded with the discomfort subsiding.”

“When you want a cigarette, your body tells you by giving you a craving. You smoke and you are rewarded with the discomfort subsiding.”

When you read these two statements as a smoker, you are probably in full agreement with them. But, the second one is wrong and that is the secret of how to stop smoking without weight gain.

What you think is that you ‘want a cigarette’ when in actual fact, you want some nicotine. It is simply that over the years, you have wanted nicotine, had a cigarette to get it and then been rewarded with the discomfort of the craving subsiding. What has happened is that you have subconsciously replaced the connection of getting nicotine and the craving dying and having a cigarette and the craving dying.

In your mind, you see the cigarette as the thing you desire when in actual fact it is the nicotine. The cigarette is simply the delivery system. This is why pharmaceutical companies (wrongly) think nicotine patches and gum can help smokers quit.

So how does knowing this help you learn how to stop smoking without weight gain? Well, the point is that when you stop smoking, you will find that the craving for a cigarette (well nicotine) is very similar to the craving for food. It is a hollow empty feeling. Whilst you struggle with your willpower to overcome the urge to smoke, you will try and subdue the craving for nicotine with something that ‘might work’ – eating.

Smokers often turn to food to settle the craving for nicotine. This is where you end up gaining weight because you are wrongly trying to settle your hunger for nicotine by doing what seems right when you hunger for food. Your calorie intake goes through the roof and you pile on the pounds!

When you recognise that your apparent increased appetite is just you mixing up cravings for food with cravings for nicotine, it becomes easier for you to control your response – i.e. whether you chose to eat or not. Once you have mastered this understanding, you are on the right track of how to stop smoking without weight gain.

Is there an easy way to stop smoking? Unfortunately no. The biggest thing in your favor if you want to stop smoking is a sincere desire to stop, right now, quit smoking, kick the habit once and for all. Like with alcohol addiction, your sincere and real desire to quit smoking is going to be the biggest single factor in your favor, and the best asset in your court to kick the habit.

Perhaps you have already tried to quit smoking and were unsuccessful. By far, the most difficult way to quit is to go cold turkey. Some people can do it this way, but the unfortunate fact is that the ones who are most successful with this approach did so because their doctor told them they were going to die if they did not stop, and putting that fear in them was the catalyst to ensure their success.

But you want to stop smoking before you get to that point, LONG before you get to that point. Let’s assume that you already know the widely publicized dangers of smoking, why it is not good for you, and the innumerable reasons why you should quit. The difficult part of putting all of that knowledge into positive actions.

Everybody is different, and just because a particular method worked for Joe or Sally does not mean anything as far as how well it will work for you. Some people have reported a lot of success with using acupuncture combined with more traditional approaches to stop smoking. This can be particularly effective if you want to quit but simply lack the willpower to make it happen. This approach seems to work best for people who are heavily addicted to the high that nicotine provides, combined with (again) that sincere desire to quit.

Other people have found great success in nicotine gum or the patch. This provides the nicotine high that your body is craving but allows you to reduce the amount of nicotine slowly so that your body can become accustomed to lower amounts of nicotine without getting into the dreaded withdrawal symptoms. The problem with nicotine is that smokers become both physically as well as psychologically addicted to it, and using nicotine gum and the patch can help wean you off nicotine slowly and comfortably.

Others have found that hypnosis can help them kick the habit. The methods of hypnosis to stop smoking are quite varied, but the bottom line is that the suggestion is put into your mind that smoking is bad, disgusting and unattractive, and when you come out of the hypnosis session, your body thinks that your negative view towards tobacco products is entirely self-generated.

There is not a single fool-proof method that is guaranteed to work for all people, simply because everybody is different. But the bottom line is that you already know that you should and need to stop smoking, and the actions required to achieve that goal are entirely in your hands. Take the gift of life seriously and kick the habit today! There are a ton of methods available, but your own desire to quite for good is going to be your best asset to getting there.

I Don’t Think I Can Stop Smoking

A lot of smokers… no wait! Let me rephrase that…thousands of smokers who want to stop smoking and who have tried dozens of, if not more, times to quit smoking and have failed time and time again, need to get one important thing into their heads that even if they have tried and failed to stop smoking a thousand times, they will always have another opportunity (unless it’s too late) and they will ALWAYS be able to stop smoking regardless even if they think they are doomed to oblivion and will spend the rest of their lives as a professional smoker.

Let me recap that paragraph in simple terms…

If you are a smoker ….YOU CAN STOP SMOKING!!!

Please if you are one of these people… if anything at this moment in your life, at least just register that red message above in bold letters into your brain and eliminate what you may have been thinking in the past with that fact…again. for the non-believers….YOU CAN QUIT SMOKING!!!

If millions of people around the world over the last 30 years have successfully stopped smoking, then wake up and smell the coffee because they are not, or were not, superhuman, nor did they get lucky. They were, or are, EXACTLY BUILT just like you, with two arms, two legs, two eyes etc etc. Even you one legged, one eyed, one armed people listen up too.

All they (Successful Ex-Smokers) did was wake up and realise that what they were doing was not (obviously) benefiting them whatsoever and they realised that their life was not theirs but it was the tobacco companies and they decided to put a stop to that, possibly educate themselves a little and then easily walk away from nicotine addiction and become an ex-smoker forever.

I always say this because it’s truer than the blue sky…unless you educate yourself why you smoke, and find that true desire to give your life back to you, then you will not become an ex-smoker. That is the key. But thats not my only point here. The main point is the red writing above.

Of course too, it is possible that there are other facts that contribute to being successful (like the great support on this website)  but the be all, end all, is what I said above. Education and desire. Period!

When a countless failed “stop smoking attempts smoker” has it in their brain that it’s over, and succumbs to the illusion and just can’t see the open door, then this is solely because of the no knowledge they have and this just creates the pathetic excuse ridden fear that makes them quit trying to stop smoking. It is a huge shame that this fear overpowers the poor smoker and controls them until it’s too late.

But it doesn’t have to be this way!

Every smoker or “just stopped smoking smoker” who is reading this article must accept a couple of things before they push open that “already open prison door” and become free.

They are as follows:-

·     Never for one minute think that you cannot stop smoking.

·     That millions of people from all walks of life are now ex-smokers so you must believe that it’s possible for even YOU to quit smoking!! Believe it now!

·     That you must go through some changes in your life, personally, physically and mentally. And get this…these changes are all so easy that you can’t give any excuse not to achieve them….lets start with a change that scares the living cr*p out of thousands of smokers who want to break free from the nicotine addiction gala.

·     Disillusioned Smokers think that they are going to die or suffer, or won’t cope with life from withdrawal bouts. Hilarious!! Sorry. but it is.

You will NOT suffer any withdrawal pangs that are going to be painful. I really wish I could kick the bu**s of any person that has said they suffered terribly from withdrawal symptoms. What a load of puppydoo!!

Yes !! Of course there will be a sensation that something is missing. That something is called poison-addiction-slavery. That very same thing you have been toxicating your body and the bodies of the people around you too by lighting up a cigarette each time. This is addiction and to counter addiction you must go through a change physically and that change is bearly noticable unless…you make it noticeable. It’s true. Hard to believe coz you are still a smoker but the pathetic dramatics are your choice.

The needing of a cigarette is by no means painful NO PAIN WHATSOEVER!!!..When you do stop smoking of course you will want a cigarette because that’s what you have been doing day in day out…but now it changes…You’re playing a new ball game that you are gonna win right? I suffer more when I don’t have breakfast. So eliminate that puppydoo old wives tale right now! There is only fear if you create it. Period. If the feeling to need-want-smoke-eat a cigarette becomes a fight for you then…

·     a. You were the one who started the fight by allowing it to annoy you.

·     b. You are prolonging it by thinking it’s a fight. Its freedom!!!
The longer you do this then the longer…hey , do I need to say it?

That’s probably (Including the missing education) where you kept going wrong in the past. If you allow it to be a burden then you will get what you ordered.

Or ….You can do the opposite and finally quit smoking and quit smoking forever. And the opposite is easy and painless. I promise. I have been free for over 2 years now and I never suffered once. Even when my Mother passed away last year I never smoked because I was educated  that cigarettes don’t help sh*t. They only cause it.

Of course when you stop using cigarettes the drug monster inside you will come a knocking’ but he’s the least of your problems I promise. Go get ya a new life that you deserve and scr*w the tobacco companies back because that’s what they have been doing to you all along with your loving caring governments present and past..

It’s true that….

You will feel like something is missing- But that is not painful.
You will feel that something is changing inside-That is your body saying thank you and its not painful.
You will feel that you want a cigarette-That’s the addiction that’s killing you. But it’s not painful.
You will feel that you wont be able to have a life without cigarettes-That’s just the evil illusion that the tobacco companies-media-other failed smoker are brainwashing you with…But dont worry. intelligence and common sense is not painful either.

I never once doubted my capacity to cope with any changes that occurred when I “Woke Up” and finally quit smoking forever because I knew that different feelings were coming and  I COULD DEAL WITH IT REGARDLESS BECAUSE I KNEW IT WAS NOT PAINFUL.

After 5 days ….well we know the rest of the story.

Good Luck

Quitting smoking is important to many smokers and there are various ways that are advertised to help stop smoking. Hypnosis is one of these options and there are different methods on offer including, hypnotherapy sessions, hypnosis cds and even the attendance of a hypnosis seminar to stop smoking. The different methods available are useful in various ways. One on one sessions are generally recognized to be the best solution to the problem while cds are a more convenient way to aid the cessation of a smoking habit. An hypnosis seminar to stop smoking is usually used by people that want company in their efforts to stop smoking and can even be arranged by a business in order to help a large number of their employees stop taking smoke breaks.

Many people do not believe that attending a hypnosis seminar to stop smoking will do any use and it does not work for a lot of people. However, the social aspect of having a large group of people with the same problem and need come together in order to make a change can be particularly motivating and encouraging to a number of people. Smoking can be a social activity so perhaps the act of quitting smoking being a social activity can help replace the need. A hypnosis seminar to stop smoking does not deal with individual problems however.

Benefits and Drawbacks to Attending a Hypnosis Seminar to Stop Smoking

The benefits to attending a hypnosis seminar to stop smoking can be that you are not alone in your effort to quit this habit. Many people feel pressure to stop smoking and it can be hard but a group effort can be the trick needed to go the final distance. A hypnosis seminar to stop smoking can work out cheaper per person than by seeing a therapist individually which can be costly which means that people with less money can also benefit. As many businesses are losing out on production because of the number of smoke breaks taken by their employees, it can be beneficial for them to try and sort out the problem in bulk.

The drawbacks to attending a hypnosis seminar to stop smoking can be multiple. There are many non-licensed therapists who have learned a skill by attending a quick course and sell what they have learned to the unsuspecting suspect. This can be a rip off in terms of the service provided and the lack of qualifications to provide this service. Seeing a qualified therapist is a preferable option as they are guaranteed to have studied for a long time on the effects of hypnotherapy on different personalities. A seminar does not focus on individual problems or issues and can be a broad generalization that will not benefit every person that attends the seminar.

Smoking is dangerous to our health. It can bring about lots of serious diseases to the body. However, many people still choose to continue smoking even though they are fully aware of the negative consequences of this habit. A prime reason is the fact that some smokers are afraid of gaining weight as soon as they get rid of their smoking habit.

Some smokers who quit don’t gain weight

Contrary to popular misconceptions, you can stop smoking without weight gain. In fact, not everyone who decides to stop smoking will gain some weight. Based on studies, some people are prone to gain more weight than others. These include people who have smoked for as much as ten or twenty years and smokers who consume at least a pack of cigarette on a day to day basis.

Among the pertinent reasons why quitting your smoking habit can probably contribute to weight gain are as follows:

a. Nicotine keeps your body weight very low. If you stop smoking, your body will eventually return to its normal weight. The normal weight will refer to your original weight if you have not smoked at all.

b. Nicotine helps you rid your body’s water a lot faster than people who don’t smoke. If you stop smoking, you might gain some weight because of water retention. However, water retention because of smoking will only last for as much as two weeks after you quit.

c. The act of smoking burns some calories in your body. If you stop smoking, your body will use fewer calories than what it needed before.

Despite these conditions, many people can stop smoking without weight gain. You will just have to eat healthy foods and engage in more physical activities. Believe it or not, your determination to quit smoking and prevent weight gain can lead you to a healthier lifestyle.

What to do when you gain weight

You can stop smoking without weight gain if you do it earlier, preferably before smoking becomes an addiction or an inevitable part of your day-to-day living. Remember that the earlier you quit smoking and the lesser the amount of cigarettes that you consume everyday, the lesser will be your weight gain.

On the average, people who gain weight after they quit smoking can get as much as ten pounds of extra fat added to their bodies. In cases where weight gain has occurred, here are some tips that you should remember.

a. Never panic. Gaining eight to ten pounds after smoking is normal. Unfortunately, you are not one of those lucky few who can stop smoking without weight gain. However, keep in mind that you are bound to lose that weight as soon as your body’s metabolism adjusts to the absence of nicotine in your body.

b. Eat right. Never let yourself go hungry. If you are not among the lucky quitters who can stop smoking without weight gain, you have to eat frequently, but in small amounts. This method of eating will help you maintain a high energy level. Also, avoid eating foods that are rich in calories. Try to eat those that are rich in fiber and nutrients.
