So you want to stop smoking

Maybe you’re stressed, or bored, or lonely. But it’s OK, your friend is there. He’s always been there for you. He distracts you if you get bored. He fixes you a nice relaxing cocktail if you feel stressed or tense.

But now you suspect he’s slipping poison into your cocktail, and he’s slipping money out of your wallet. The fact is he’s been feeding you a pack of lies.

Saying goodbye to friends can be difficult, even friends who are trying to kill you and rob you. But it is possible. Millions of people just like you have done it, have stopped smoking, and you can too.

Following these 10 easy tips to assist you in becoming a healthy non-smoker for life!

• Tip 1: Take a moment, breath deeply in, and out, and ask yourself why you want to stop smoking

For some people it is health risks of smoking. After all smoking is not only a proven killer, it is also able to kill in many varied ways: lung cancer, stomach cancer, mouth or throat cancer, emphysema. You name it and there’s a good chance cigarettes can give it to you.

For some people it is the risk to your children or other loved ones. By smoking, you are not just poisoning yourself, you are sharing your second hand poison with them also. Second hand smoke can be as deadly as first hand smoke.

For some it is the effect on your breath of stale cigarette smoke, for others the aging effect on your skin.

For some it is the stench of smoke on their clothes. Perhaps they see people wrinkle their nose as they walk past.

It may be the effect on your breathing.

Everyone has different reasons to stop smoking. What are yours? Think about it and write them down.

• Tip 2: Ask yourself why you want to stop smoking NOW

So you want to stop smoking. Why do you want to stop smoking now? Has there been some event in your life? Maybe a health scare?

• Tip 3: Make a decision to quit.

You know why you are becoming a non-smoker, and you know the time is right to become a non-smoker now.

Make a decision: from now on you are a healthy non-smoker for life!

• Tip 4: Share the good news

Congratulations! You have made a decision to quit and become a healthy non-smoker for life. Don’t keep it to yourself, tell your friends, tell your relatives.

The more people you tell, the more likely you are to stick to being a healthy non-smoker for life!

• Tip 5: Get to know your enemy

Knowledge is power. There are excellent resources on-line that discuss in detail the contents of cigarettes and the effects of smoking.

Of course cigarettes contain carcinogens, cancer causing chemicals, but there are more common day-to-day poisons as well. Cyanide and arsenic are two of the better-known poisons that are in cigarettes. But did you know they put formaldehyde in there as well. That’s the stuff they keep dead bodies in at the morgue; remember dissecting frogs in biology class? And urea, that’s urine to you and me, yes your once-upon-a-time friend pisses in those cigarettes before he hands them out.

Honestly, the more you read about cigarettes and the effects of smoking the worse it gets and you will wonder why you ever let a cigarette near you, and you will probably feel a little nauseous if you smell tobacco smoke again.

Tip 6: Acknowledge what smoking did for you and realize how many ways you can still get those same benefits

Let’s face it, smoking did something for you. That’s why you once considered cigarettes your friend. But you don’t need to sacrifice your health; all the benefits that smoking gave you, you can get being a healthy non-smoker.

Ask yourself honestly what smoking used to do for you. Did it make you feel relaxed? Or feel like Joe Cool? Or make you feel like one of the gang? Now use your creative imagination to come up with some other ways of getting those benefits, for example if smoking used to help you relax, you could learn self-hypnosis to easily get the same effect. Use those new healthy behaviors and you will keep the benefits.

• Tip 7: Ask for help if you need it

If you feel it would be beneficial to see a doctor do so. If you think a hypnotist will help you, go see one. You are not alone!

• Tip 8: Ask yourself: how will my life be different now that I am a healthy non-smoker for life?

Yes you’re healthier now as a non-smoker for life. Your body is already beginning to repair itself. Your risk of serious disease is already diminishing. Your lungs are healthier; you’re able to take more exercise, run for the bus without losing your breath.

And you life is different in so many other ways. Imagine you are walking past the news-stand. You reach the next block and realize you have no cravings at all. They are gone and you are free. How does this feel?

Imagine helping a friend of yours to become a non-smoker. What are you saying to them to help and encourage them? How good does it feel to know you have helped them to become a healthy non-smoker for life?

• Tip 9: Arm yourself to more easily handle cravings

Smoking is addictive. Your once-upon-a-time friends at the tobacco companies have seen to that. They have carefully laced your cocktail with chemically addictive additives to better keep a hold of your mind and wallet, but the cravings can be handled once you are prepared.

There are a number of ways you can prepare yourself to more easily handle any cravings. Mind-energy techniques such as self-hypnosis or EFT can reduce cravings to zero and are well worth learning. Some people swear by gum or the patch.

The nicotine will be gone from your system in around 72 hours, and from that point on your brain chemistry begins to return to normal. During that time, try not to drink coffee or fruit juice (the acidity tends to increase the nicotine craving). If you drink, drink in moderation.

• Tip 10: Acknowledge and reward yourself for becoming a healthy non-smoker for life

You have taken a major step into a brighter, healthier future. Acknowledge that and thank yourself for what you have done.

Reward yourself by treating yourself to something you really want. Get your once-upon-a-time friends at the tobacco company to pay for it; how much money were you wasting on each pack of lies that you bought? How many did you buy? How much money were you wasting on poison? Now it is truly yours to spend as you want.

Bonus Tip: What to do if your once-upon-a-time friend comes whispering in your ear.

OK so you’ve kicked your once-upon-a-time friend out. You’ve done your research and you know exactly what he was doing to you all that time, poisoning you and robbing you. You’ve got over those three days of cravings. You’re free.

Don’t be surprised if your once-upon-a-time friend comes whispering inside your head.

He may use a superior tone:

“Who do you think you’re kidding? You’re not strong enough, you’ll come crawling back to me”

Or maybe he’ll try the whiney approach:

“Just one. What harm is there in just one?”

And you know it’s a pack of lies, but…

Wait a minute! This is your head! You get to say who speaks and what they say! Take a moment, invite your whiney once-upon-a-time friend to speak. Listen to that voice, and notice where it is coming from. Now move it, some people find moving it down to the ground by your left foot works. As you move it down you will find it becomes even more whiney “neh-neh-neh just one more neh-neh-neh” almost like the buzzing of an insect crawling round the floor.

And taking a moment to listen to that whiney buzz, wondering how your once-upon-a-time friend ever thought he could fool you again with his pack of lies, lift up your left foot and squish that whiney insect.

We’re not done yet. Think back to someone in your life who you know or knew. Someone you admired and respected. Perhaps a teacher, a friend, a mentor. As you remember them, imagine what they would be saying to you now, how proud they would be of you as a healthy non-smoker for life. Hear their voice, hear their words, and realize you have won and you are a healthy non-smoker for life!

As any smoker can verify, giving up – and staying smoke-free – is one of the most difficult things to do. But if you are successful in
giving up smoking, it is not only one of the healthiest steps you can take, it also decreases your chances of dying from smoking or any related diseases. An estimated 400,000 Americans die every year from the effects of smoking and in general, a smoker has about twice as much chance of a heart attack as a non-smoker.
Smoking actually affects almost every part of the body – not just the heart and lungs, as is commonly believed – and the effects of stopping smoking can be dramatic and sudden. However, the human body is amazingly resilient and will begin to heal itself almost immediately. If you have some idea of what to expect after you quit smoking, it’s perhaps a little bit easier to deal with the effects.
Just twenty minutes or so after smoking their last cigarette, a person’s blood pressure will return to normal and after just two days of being smoke-free, the chances of having a heart attack will be reduced. The heart and lungs will begin to repair the damage caused to them by smoking. And after two days, a person who has just stopped smoking may also notice that their sense of smell and taste is more heightened – and may want to eat more, as food tastes better.
Immediately after quitting, a smoker may also experience some unpleasant symptoms which are perfectly normal – sore gums, coughing, irregularity and a temporary weight gain, which is caused by the body retaining fluids. Many ex-smokers also feel irritable or tired or find it difficult to sleep. It might make you feel better to know that these are all signs of nicotine being removed from your body – most of it will have gone completely within several days.
You will also have nicotine withdrawal symptoms and it’s during the first few days and weeks after quitting that you will have to fight the urge not to smoke. Symptoms of nicotine withdrawal often resemble a mild dose of the flu and can include any or all of the following – irritability, insomnia or fatigue, headache, sore throat, tightness in the chest, dry mouth and lack of concentration. These symptoms can be unpleasant – but they will pass.
After a few weeks, the worst symptoms of nicotine withdrawal will start to diminish and the whole process should become easier. You will find that circulation improves and you may also find that walking and exercising are easier as your body readjusts to its new and healthier state. You will still probably have the occasional craving for a cigarette, but after a few weeks, it is a little bit easier not to give in.
The noticeable effects on your body will continue during the first year or so – sinus congestion and coughing will decrease and you should find that you generally have more energy than when you smoked. The cilia, or tiny hairs, start to grow back in the lungs, helping to clean the lungs, processing mucus produced by the body and generally reducing the chances of infection. However, you will have to wait an estimated fifteen years before your chance of developing coronary heart disease is the same as that of a person who has never smoked.
Of course, the longer you are smoke-free, the easier it is to stay that way. After a few months or so, the physical longings for a cigarette will have diminished to a large extent, although you need to be careful not to lapse and have just one cigarette, which may then lead to another. And the long term effects of giving up smoking are something that shouldn’t be taken for granted – a far lower chance of getting cancer or heart disease and perhaps just as importantly, a feeling of accomplishment and pride.

“Smoking Causes Lung Cancer, Heart Disease, Emphysema, and may complicate Pregnancy.”

“Smoking can cause a slow and painful death.”

Despite statutory warnings as dramatic as this in the US and the UK, there are still plenty of us who just can’t seem to give up on the habit, no matter how hard we try. Finding a way to stop smoking easily has, until recently, been about as challenging and elusive as the search for the holy grail.

Smoking always starts out as a curiosity quencher. After “trying it out” the first time, the second and third times come quickly, heralding the start of a regular routine that is very costly in more ways than one.

The seriousness of the effects of smoking would, one could reason, be enough to see people giving up in their droves. Everyone knows by now that smoking is clearly linked to diseases like lung, mouth and throat cancer, heart disease and premature tooth decay, to name but a few. Nonetheless, most of us who smoke continue to persist with a habit that we tacitly acknowledge is an insidious killer, not to mention unpleasant and potentially dangerous for those around us.

Why?

Whereas getting into the routine is child’s play, getting out of it, or quitting smoking, can be hellishly difficult and enormously stressful. Many people will find that to stop smoking is every bit as tough as giving up any other form of substance abuse such as alcohol, marijuana, prescription and other drugs.

To complicate matters, withdrawal symptoms are common after quitting. Mood swings, sleeplessness, cramping of the muscles, cravings and coughing are good examples. These nasty effects are often laid at the door of the substance called nicotine (or lack of it) that is known to cause addiction. But the truth is that cigarettes have been found to contain thousands of chemicals, many of which may be toxic and/or addictive.

And to add a final insult to the injury, those who successfully stop smoking often find themselves ballooning in weight as they distract themselves from their erstwhile habit with frequent snacks and various other ‘munchies’. These extra ‘treats’ and the cost of the various pills, patches and gums that many use to assist the process, often wipe out the financial gains from quitting.

But in all the gloom, there is some great news for those of us – and our loved ones – who long to ‘ditch the weed’. There are programs on the market today that can help people to stop smoking easily and quickly, without the use of supplements and nicotine replacement aids while sidestepping all the hated withdrawal symptoms and avoiding weight gain. It sounds almost too good to be true but the truth is that these programs have remarkably high success rates.

The secret to success lies within each and every one of us. As it is proving to be the case in so many areas of our lives nowadays, our very own personal belief system and our frame of reference for what we think is possible and not possible holds the key to making dramatic and lasting changes.

And, slowly but steadily, smokers are coming to realize that the search for a magic pill, patch or drug is not the answer. The only approach that really does bear fruit in the honorable quest to stop smoking easily is (with a little help) to look within.

So you?re pregnant ? and over the moon – as you contemplate a new life with a bouncing baby daughter or son!

But there?s just one thing that?s been troubling you, nagging you, playing on your mind? You?re a smoker! And you?re worried about the effect that might have on your beloved and much anticipated offspring.

So what do you do?

Ignore the threat and hope for the best? Try to cut down until the baby is born? Or come to terms with how to stop smoking altogether?

?Either way,? you?re likely to be reasoning ? ?I?m in for a tough time!?

Let?s face it, as a mother to be, you?re desperate to do everything in your power to protect and care for the beautiful little person that?s growing inside you. At the same time, whether you care to acknowledge it openly or not, you?re in the vice-like grip of that damned smoking habit!

It?s a case of ?irresistible motivation? meets ?immovable addiction?.

So, like any good Mom or Mom-to-be, you do the right thing and research the true dangers of continuing to smoke.

You find out to your horror that smoking during pregnancy increases the risk of pregnancy complications, premature delivery, low-birth-weight infants, stillbirth, and sudden infant death syndrome.

Some more delving and you come up against the worrying fact that babies of mothers who smoked during pregnancy have lower birth weights and that low birth weight is a leading cause of infant deaths, resulting in more than 300,000 deaths annually among newborns in the United States alone.

The bad news keeps coming. Babies unprotected from secondhand smoke after birth are at twice the risk for sudden infant death syndrome, and infants whose mothers smoked before and after birth are at three to four times greater risk.

?Enough? you reason. ?There?s no way I can expose my baby to this kind of threat! I simply must work out how to stop smoking before the damage is done.?

But hold on. This is supposed to be a special time for you. You?ve got to keep your wits about you as you focus all your efforts on growing that wonderful little baby. The last thing you want is the distraction and stress of having to cope with quitting smoking.

What about the mood swings, sleeplessness, cramping of the muscles, cravings and coughing that you know will accompany the fight to dump the habit? What detrimental effect will you subject your unborn child to if you start on some regimen of pills, patches, or nicotine replacement drugs?

Like so many pregnant mothers who face the same predicament, this dilemma appears to have you headed firmly down a no-win ?cul de sac?.

Yet, mercifully, that no longer has to be your fate, thanks to some wonderful new approaches and methods that are available to deal effectively with the question of how to stop smoking.

It?s true. Nowadays you can stop smoking easily, quickly and permanently and still manage to circumvent all the nasty side effects and withdrawal symptoms that are associated with giving up.

The secret to success is within your reach, far closer than you could imagine. Your very own personal belief system and frame of reference for what you think is possible and not possible holds the key to making the change that you know ? deep down ? you need to make.

That?s right. ?Magic? pills, patches or drugs are not the answer. You and your amazing mind are ? admittedly, perhaps, with a little help from those who have been there, done it and designed the program!

Stop smoking

- If you have tried to stop smoking in vain for years
– If this is your fifth or may be fiftieth attempt to stop smoking
– If you really wish to stop smoking now

Try Champix. It is a prescription only drug and helps in smoking cessation. However, before we go on about Champix, let us know more about smoking, so that it becomes easier for you to weigh pros and cons of smoking and cessation.

About smoking

Smoking is an addictive habit because of a substance called nicotine found in tobacco. Nicotine is the culprit behind your inability to stop smoking. If you want to give up this addiction, you need a drug or treatment that addresses nicotine.

Reasons for which you need to stop smoking are many. Some of them you yourself might be aware of through various sources of media or may be you might have seen somebody in your own family struggle with cancer because of smoking. Health problems such as cancer, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, gangrene, COPD, are just a few that occur because of smoking. If you feel that all these health problems won’t happen to you, think again. You stand a good chance to suffer from any of these if you do not stop smoking in time. Moreover, your daily life also becomes more painful as smoking makes even the easiest task look mammoth!

If you decide to stop smoking now, resources to help you do it are available. You may be able to move away from smoking cessation without going through any difficulties associated with cessation.

Availability of stop smoking drug Champix

Most people dread to stop smoking because of nicotine cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Nicotine cravings are needs or desires that arise because of lack of nicotine from cigarettes and withdrawal symptoms are symptoms that occur to show that the brain has not received nicotine.

Champix is a new stop smoking drug that helps reduce nicotine cravings as well as withdrawal symptoms. It does not contain nicotine like nicotine replacement therapies (NRT), so it can wean you from nicotine without actually giving nicotine to your body. The active ingredient of Champix is varenicline, which acts as nicotine and helps you stop smoking.

You can get Champix from a local drugstore or a pharmacy or you can even place an order for Champix online.

Side effects of stop smoking drug

Champix is a prescription drug and like most prescription drugs, it has side effects too. Side effects of Champix are mostly reversible and transient in nature. If you experience any side effect of Champix or if it becomes bothersome, inform a doctor.

Some of the common side effects of Champix are as follows:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Upset stomach
  • Dizziness
  • Vivid dreams

These side effects mostly go away as your body adjusts to the medicine. If however, they become persistent, kindly inform a doctor.

Precautions to take for stop smoking drug Champix

Champix is a safe and effective stop smoking drug but is not meant for everyone. If you have kidney or liver problems, do not take Champix. You should also not take Champix if you have depression or suicidal tendencies. Take Champix only if you are above 18 and below 65 years of age. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should also not take Champix.

Always tell your healthcare professional about all your health details before you take Champix. If you hide any condition from the doctor he or she may not be able to diagnose your condition properly and so might prescribe you an improper medication.

Also before you get Champix, make sure that you will stick to your decision to stop smoking. Any shilly-shallying may lead to problems for you and hamper your success.

The two medicines involved in a new stop smoking shot – the SMARTTM Shot – has been around for about ten years, Scopolamine and Atarax, and are now FDA approved for stop smoking aids.

SMART stands for Scopolamine Medicated Anticholinergic Receptor Treatment, with Scopolamine as a medicine that contains the ingredient of the seasickness patch, while Atarax is an antihistamine like Benadryl.

Together, they block the brain nicotine receptors and ease the physical withdrawal pains of the nicotine by placing one shot in the hip or buttocks, instead of the older shots which consisted of three shots – two behind the ear and one in the buttock – of other more traditional shot methods.

For the next two weeks, medication and the scopolamine patch are used jointly with a success rate of 70 to 80% while patches have a success rate of 20%, which is considered a normal rate of success. The thing to remember is that it can cause side effects, so doctors advise medical examination before allowing the patients to go ahead with the treatment especially if there are medical concerns or medical drugs being taken.

People who recommend the treatment say that the shots prevent withdrawal symptoms by blocking the nicotine receptors. Others say that this happens only when very high doses of atropine are injected. According to one study, about 40% of the people who took this treatment stopped smoking, though some clinics claim a success rate of 80%.

There are some who are quite critical of anti smoking shots. They believe that more work needs to be done before establishing the efficacy of these drugs. The side effects commonly associated with anti-smoking shots are blurred vision, difficulty in urinating, dizziness, dry mouth, confusion, etc. Hallucinations, heart attack, coma, and stroke may be caused by excessive doses of anticholinergic drugs.

This new shot has been developed by Dr. Voelker, who has spent the last ten years studying and fighting smoking, COPD, emphysema, and lung cancer. He has also pioneered early lung cancer detection and treatment, then taught these methods around the country to other doctors.

A director of the Doctor’s hospital pulmonary and critical care department at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital, he is board certified in internal medicine, critical care, and pulmonary medicine – while also being listed in medicine’s “Who’s Who”. The shot or injection treatment is certainly not advisable for women who are pregnant, or for individuals who have heart rhythm problems, prostate problems or are taking mood-altering drugs.

It is best to opt for the treatment as a last resort if you have any of these conditions, while needing to find out the rate of success, the reputation and the support offered by clinics that offer stop smoking shots in comparison.

1. Decide a date that you are going to stop smoking and then sign the agreement below. Hold yourself accountable.

Stop Smoking Agreement

I now promise that from the _________________________, I will be a non smoker and I will remain a non-smoker for the rest of my life.

This is not a promise to any member of my family or to anybody else. This is a promise to myself.

I now give my mental word of honour that I will be successful at being a non-smoker and I now sign my name to this promise.

Signed _______________________________ Date __________________

2. Write down all the reasons why you want to stop smoking. State these reasons in the positive. The mind does not know the difference between something negative and something positive. So you want your mind focused on the positive reasons why you are a non-smoker.

3. Read through the positive reasons why you want to be a non-smoker daily and perform the exercise below.

a. Close your eyes take a few deep breaths and imagine that a wave of relaxation is flowing throughout your entire body. Imagine that every time that you breathe out you are relaxing more and more. You could even imagine that every breath that you exhale is like taking a step down an imaginary staircase of relaxation.

b. Close your eyes take a few deep breaths and imagine that a wave of relaxation is flowing throughout your entire body. Imagine that every time that you breathe out you are relaxing more and more. You could even imagine that every breath that you exhale is like taking a step down an imaginary staircase of relaxation.

Say the following suggestion to yourself.

“I am a non-smoker and I am going to remain a non-smoker for the rest of my life”

c. Once you have said the said that suggestion, imagine yourself in a situation really feeling the benefits of this change.

d. So if one of your reasons for stopping smoking was to feel fitter you could then imagine yourself exercising and really feeling the benefits because you are a non-smoker.

e. Repeat the suggestion again and imagine yourself in another situation noticing the benefits of the change.

f. Repeat this for all your positive reasons and then count from 1 to 3 and open your eyes.

4. Break all your patterns of where and when you smoked. If you smoked in the car, take the ashtray out and clean the vehicle so it smells fresh.

5. Stop asking yourself why you can’t stop smoking. Build up your will power by asking yourself these question:

How good will I feel when I’ve stopped smoking?

What do I feel happiest about in my life?

What am I most excited about or what would make me feel excited?

What will I use my new wealthy and fitness for?

Really think about and consider the answers until you feel better.

6. If the urge to smoke strikes, close you eyes, take a deep breath in and as you exhale imagine that the urge is leaving your body. Do this 3 times.

Quitting smoking is a huge undertaking. While your body rids itself of the physical nicotine addiction, your mind has to cut the mental stronghold that cigarettes have over you. Many smokers wish that they could just wave a magic wand and make the habit disappear for good. Maybe they can.

Laser therapy is an option that can help smokers kick the habit for good. Most smokers genuinely want to quit, but are afraid of how they will deal with the withdrawal symptoms and the nicotine cravings. These people are afraid of what will happen if they just can’t cope without cigarettes. These fears keep smokers dependent on nicotine.

Laser therapy treatments can help manage nicotine cravings, keeping you calm and relaxed during the first crucial weeks. The treatment provides a natural high with a feeling of well being, thereby greatly reducing the temptation to smoke another cigarette.

Stop smoking laser therapy is a low-level laser therapy that is virtually painless, entirely safe and helps fight nicotine cravings. It is an external, non-thermal, and non-invasive process.

Considered a non-medical procedure, treatments are given using a low-level laser to help promote the release of endorphins in the body. Endorphins are natural chemicals that signal your system to decrease stress and increase energy.

When you undergo stop smoking laser therapy, you will receive laser beams to acupuncture points on the body and ear. Advocates say that not only is the procedure non-invasive, it has no side effects. Most smokers need only three to five treatment sessions that last about 30 minutes each. Patients receiving laser therapy do not require additional nicotine or drug replacement.

The low-level laser acts as an instrument to aid the client through the initial physical withdrawals from nicotine. The first 72 hours after quitting is considered to be the crucial detoxification period. For three to five days following treatment, the laser will mimic a similar endorphin release, relieving the stress associated with giving up nicotine.

Stop smoking laser therapy has been proven to be far more effective than other treatment options. Like thousands of successful laser therapy clients, you will be amazed at how easily you can stop smoking with the help of these treatments.

Laser therapy programs focus more on the mental side of addiction. The complete plan offers advice on helping you adjust to being a non-smoker, addressing the physical, emotional and psychological aspects of stopping smoking. This additional material provides added support to help you adjust to the significant change in your lifestyle.

Backup support is also available, providing ongoing support to secure your lifestyle change and help you remain smoke-free.

If you’re still not sure that you’re ready to escape the clutches of nicotine, consider the health benefits of being a non-smoker. Within twenty minutes of having your last cigarette, your blood pressure will begin to normalize. Within a few hours, the carbon monoxide in your blood goes down and the oxygen level increases to normal. Your hands and feet will feel warmer as your body enjoys an improvement in blood circulation. Your body will thank you as your lungs begin to deliver clean, fresh air. Improved senses of smell and taste are two very pleasant benefits you’ll enjoy as an ex-smoker. Over the weeks, months and years to come, literally every aspect of your health and life will be better.

Through laser therapy, the fight to escape nicotine addiction can be an easier battle. Try the treatments, stick to your program and avoid temptation to give yourself a fighting chance.
