Its that time of year again when we all make resolutions.
I would dearly love to give up smoking has anyone got any sure fire tips on how i can accomplish my dream this year.
So you all realise ive been smoking for 30 years and ive had enough so please help. Many thanks and Happy New Year to all
My tip is to gradually stop, because you have been smoking for such a long time now when you stop smoking you will get very harsh withdrarwal symptoms which will make you feel really bad. So try limiting your amount each day and decrease that number by 1 or 2 cigerates a day, remember stay strong and dont give in. You CAN do it! Just beleive in yourself!
Good Luck.
Hope this helps.
I need to quit for surgery. The doctor will test for nicotine.
I am a quitter! I stopped smoking over 2 years ago after over a decade of smoking.
I went cold turkey.
Here is how I did it.
1. I set a date and placed in the back of my mind. I did not stress the date and I did not even think about it until the day before.
2. Say goodbye to smoking. Seriously, say goodbye. I had a moment with my final cigarette. I turned the TV off. I dimmed the light (I know it sounds romantic) and I just enjoyed 1 last cigarette.
3. When I woke up, I was done! i stopped smoking.
I was angry and depressed and at 1 point in a ball crying. I never gave in. I took control of my will and would not allow myself to give up. Cinnamon candy, lollipops, water (ice cold water), gum all were HUGE aids. i also found a website called QUITNET.COM and it was a god send. It helped me through. it has calculators so you can see your progress (money saved, cigs not smoked, life saved). Great site and highly recommended.
The key to all is you. Do you want to smoke? if so, you will smoke. Do you want to quit? If so you will. Does your will belong to you or a cigarette? If you answered "you" then control it. Do whatever it takes to live without smoking. You will be happy you did,
Good luck.
I’ve smoked for 30 years and it’s time to quit. I was thinking about patches. Also, does anyone know if you are supposed to use the gum along with the patches or one or the other?
I quit 10 years ago – quiting smoking is said to be harder than kicking a cocaine addiction (never had that addiction). Anyway, I quit cold turkey.
You have to really want to quit – I mean really want too.
I tried many times, but in the back of my mind I didn’t really want to quit – I just told myself I needed to for my health. Never worked.
What worked for me was when I got the crap scared out of me when I had a bad bout with bronchitis. I had to go to the emergency room twice in one day to get breathing treatments (and I didn’t even smoke when I was sick).
When I was sitting in the room waiting on my breathing treatment – I said to myself – this is utterly ridiculous and if I didn’t smoke, my lungs would be healthier and I wouldn’t have such a time getting rid of the bronchitits if I didn’t smoke.
When I said, I am never smoking again, I knew it in my heart – not my head.
Hope I helped and good luck!
My friend started smoking when he was 14 last year. This year he managed to stop smoking for over a month or so.He started to pick up the habit of smoking again earlier this month. What should he do to make him stop smoking? Help please? Thanks !
Perhaps a search for "quit smoking" + "natural ways" might be of interest.
I am a habitual hash smoker. I have been smoking pot for the last 22 years. I have a life, and I work hard, but I just cant seem to knock it off. Im not a scruffy junkie or anything. But everytime I think I’ll stop, even for a week, I just end up frantic. My wife ends up telling me to go and get some and chill out a bit!
Im not anti drugs, and feel its anybodys right to do whatever they want, but has anyone got any good advice, maybe backed up with experience?
I havent been clean and straight for over 20 years now and I feel there is more to me than this.
I have lots of good memories, all of them with an under current of being a bit stoned and a bit dull because of it.
I have used pretty much all other drugs at some time or another, recreationally, but I always smoke pot every day.
So? Any good ideas? I dont want to have to hate it, so no exteme hypno, and all of my freinds smoke and I dont want to have to ditch them, so no big enviroment change therapies either.
Oh, and dont just judge me either. I am a good guy and I dont abuse or misuse other humans.
Just a bit fed up with it all, is all.
If I sound like someone who doesnt really want to quit its because I cant be bothered to quit…. which is kinda my point. Ive lost a lot of my ambition and will power. (lol) and it just seems easier to get stoned, although I dont even really get stoned anymore…..
Sorrt dude, just stop. I smoked pretty much every day for 15 years, my friends are pot heads too. I stayed in for a week, when I stopped to give me a chance to get used to it and then started my social life again without the pot.
There were no withdrawal symptoms, I don’t even particularly feel like I’m missing out on anything either.
I’ve been smoking almost everyday for the past 6 months. The longest time i’ve went without smoking weed would probably be two or three days. I have a lot of things going for me and the only real reason to quit would be because im not myself anymore. Any tips on quitting?
Weed is not physiologically addictive, you are mentally addicted. Stop buying it, get rid of all of your weed accessories, find a healthy replacement that will get your mind off of wanting to do it.
what can i take? I heard there’s thing you can use to clean it out faster than, the 30 or 40 days it normally take when you naturally stop smoking marijuana (weed).
drink lots of fluids, sweat, take some niacin pills
My fiance has been smoking on and off for probably 15 years. He’s successfully quit a few times, only to eventually end up smoking again. He smokes about half a pack a day right now. He knows how much I can’t stand it because I don’t want to lose him to cancer or heart disease in 20 years, but this doesn’t seem to deter him enough. He wants to stop, or at least he says so, and he has tried the gum and the lozenges with a little success, but he doesn’t seem completely motivated (sometimes he’ll choose the cigarette over the lozenge, for example). What can I do to help him stop for good? Do you have any ideas, or ways that you’ve helped someone stop smoking?
He hates fixing stuff up around the house, unless it’s a comuputer heh… but I could keep his hands busy with a video game.. thanks for the idea.
I think he also likes the social aspect of smoking, which is an even harder thing to break imo…
Once he stops, then GET HIM BUSY!!!
You have to "break the cycle" of "hand to mouth" routine. By keeping him busy, you will be doing him a favor, and yourself a favor.
For one thing, buy him some tools and have him repair stuff around the house. This will make him think you "really love him" (As any woman who would buy a man a tool is the BEST TYPE OF WOMAN!!!)
Then, get him busy doing those "little projects" you always wanted to get done.
Now, dont get him started drinking beer, for the cigarrettes, or it will be another addiction that will be hard to stop!! Give him some Gatoraide, or Soda (if you give soda, make SURE you drink one glass of water for every glass of soda you drink, as the soda will turn your body acidic and cause teeth deterrioration and other health problems).
I wish you well..
Jesse
My friends is smoking about 5 cigarettes a day
Newports I think
Is that too much?
And I don’t know if they’re addicted but if they are how long does it take to quit?
Well honestly any cigarette smoking is too much. But if you look at it on the average 5 cigarettes a day isn’t as many as most smokers. Quiting is something very different and personal for everyone. If you do have the strength to quit it could take many many many tried or for some it may not be as difficult. It’s more up to the individual and the quiting method they choose.
how did u stop smoking? are there any free stop smoking aides out there?
ur doctor can get you to a smoking cessation program..
